This introductory course in economics aims at providing the analytical tools and basic knowledge to understand and interpret the mechanisms that drive the functioning of economic systems. The course will cover both microeconomics and macroeconomics, touching the following topics:
- The big questions about the economy
- Economic decision making
- Economic relationships and interactions
- The functioning and efficiency of markets
- The aggregate (macro) economy in the short and medium run
- The aggregate (macro) economy in the long run
- The role of the State
Issues covered during the course include consumer’s theory, perfect competition, oligopoly and monopoly, aggregate demand and supply, money and inflation, government intervention and public debt.
