Studying Law at Roma Tre
Researcher in Comparative Law at Università degli Studi Roma Tre since 2009, Rebecca Spitzmiller holds a J.D. cum laude from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale Florida. She has written on a range of topics in a comparative-law perspective, including: Italian Tort Law, (her webpage, http://www.italiantortlaw.altervista.org/, is the only one in English addressing only this topic), Competition and Consumer Law, Freedom of Assembly, Family Law, Criminal Procedure, Subsidiarity and Care for Common Goods, as well as Legal Education itself. She recently translated into English “The Role of Fraternity in Law: A Comparative Legal Approach,” (Adriana Cosseddu ed.) published by Routledge in 2021.

She has taught International Business Contracts at Roma Tre since 2008, and has taught Street Law since Spring 2019, the first time this Legal Clinic had ever been included in any Italian law-school curriculum. She also teaches business courses for the Council at International Educational Exchange and Luiss Business School, and teaches Legal English for the Scuola Superiore della Magistratura and the Scuola Superiore dell’Avvocatura.

Dr. Spitzmiller served as Coordinator for “Studying Law at Roma Tre” (SLR3) since 2008, which established 20 some courses and seminars in law taught entirely in English each year. She coordinates Roma Tre study-abroad opportunities at Cardozo Law School in NY City, University of Washington in Seattle Nova Southeastern University (NSU), China’s Shanghai International Studies University and Nagoya University in Japan. At NSU, Roma Tre also offers a dual degree in law, an exclusive opportunity to obtain both the JD and the laurea magistrale as part of the Italian law-school curriculum; Dr. Spitzmiller has coordinated the dual-degree program since its inception.

In December of 2018 she was named “Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic,” conferred by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, for her engaging commitment as the Co-Founder of the non-profit grassroots movement, Retake Roma (www.retakeroma.org), aimed at raising awareness for respect for the law and for the value of common goods, fighting urban degradation and fostering civic pride in the territory of Roma Capitale
